Whereas executive coaching is a close, confidential partnership in which the coach draws out the leader’s own experience, expertise, and insights to facilitate growth and achieve outstanding results, consultation involves the client seeking expert advice and support for addressing challenges and opportunities critical to the organization’s success. Sometimes I am invited in to companies specifically for my subject matter expertise and organizational effectiveness and consultation skills, and other times I am engaged as an executive coach and discover broader systemic or organizational issues that require attention. In the latter case, I am happy to make recommendations as well as referrals.
